Houston Pagan Pride began in 1996 as part of what was then a small grassroots movement in the United States to promote religious tolerance and understanding. It was powered by individuals linked together via the Internet. This movement has now gone global through the Pagan Pride Project which officially incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1997. The ultimate goal of Houston Pagan Pride is to enlighten others and eliminate religious prejudice & discrimination not just for Pagans but for people of all religions. We work towards this goal through a celebration where diversity is embraced in a hospitable and entertaining atmosphere. During this event we collect funds and material goods for a charity and present to the public a variety of Pagan and Pagan friendly artisans and entertainers who share our vision of a world where religious prejudice is a thing of the past.

Houston Pagan Pride 2008: Getting It In Gear!

We've had our first meeting for HPPD 2008 and we were happy to note some improvements going on at Last Concert Cafe which will definitely make it better for our performers. There's a lovely new cover over the stage in progress. The annoying side stage that was crowding our vendors last time is no more. (YAY!) They've torn down some of the little booths along the side near the patio and replaced them with a new structure. We're assuming that they're going to knock down the rest of them by the gate eventually and give the whole area a facelift. This may put into question our exact layout of vendors as we don't know how far along these improvements will be by the time the event rolls around. So, if you're intending to vend, please be patient with Armand as he may not know until the very last where he's going to set you up. Our spacing will very much depend on how much building material is still on the premises and what configuration the little side booths end up in.  And that brings us to two announcements:

1. The date of the event is proposed as September 27, 2008.

2. Vendor reservations will open on June 30th. Please go and read the Vendors page if you intend to vend for Pagan Pride 2008. It will give you the full details on how to get your reservation.

We're working out the logistics of perhaps having fun ways for the wee ones to burn off more of their energy during the event. We'll let the specifics be known once we have them. We're also working out other possible fun things for the grown-ups, too. If you have ideas, please do join us at our meetings and share them. We try to craft a festival that is enjoyable for all who attend as much as possible. If you have ideas, but don't have time to volunteer, we'll take that too. Just email those ideas to our coordinator. You can find information for all of them on the Coordinator Contacts page. Thus far, we've heard from most of our coordinators that they will all be retaining their posts this year. However, our beloved Rain Riversong asks for a volunteer to be her assistant as Entertainment Coordinator with an eye toward that person being dedicated enough to take her place so she can take some time to relax after many wonderful and much appreciated years of wrangling the fabulous bands and other acts who have graced the HPPD stage. If you feel you may be qualified for this position, please contact Rain.

Now Is The Time....

I haven't heard anyone say they didn't have a good time and/or had any issues while they were at the event. However, if you did have an issue, now is the time to bring it to our attention so we can make sure that actions are taken to prevent it from happening this year if possible. If you think you have ideas to help make the event better, now is the time to jump onto our event mailing list by clicking that Yahoo groups join button over there to the left. We grow and improve through the help and ideas of our volunteers. If you want something a bit different out of your Pagan Pride Day experience, the best way to move towards it is to jump into the planning committee and help make it happen! Now is also a great time to jump on the list if you wish to vend or perform for next year's event. You'll get the first calls for reservations and talent scouting as they happen!
